Anti-war protesters and activists gather in the Strand, London, to hold a protest outside the British Army recruitment office not far from Trafalgar Square. The British Army continue to suffer chronic under-manning and are now understrength in both Afghanistan and Iraq. Many reasons have been cited for the recruitment shortages Observer and army recruiters are now offering £15,000 'loyalty bonus' payments in an attempt to shore up staff retention during the ongoing disastrous misadventure in the Middle East. The anti-war protest comes on the day British 'media' carry reports that the Government have also increased compensation for soldiers severely wounded during service. London. 17th July 2008.
