The invasion was claimed, at the time, to be an attempt to find and kill a Saudi national by the name of Osama Bin Laden who, the US claimed, was responsible for a number of commercial passenger airliners being flown into civil and government buildings in the US on September 11th 2001. The attacks on the United States have formed the structural basis for all foreign policy initiatives undertaken by the United States from that day to this.
