Hands Off Latin America Protest. London, UK. 17/09/2008.
Peace camapigners gather outside the US Embassy in London to protest the ongoing violence taking place in Bolivia as anti-government forces operating within the small nation are reported to be attempting to stage a coup against the left leaning government of Evo Morales. South America has seen a move to governments characterised by democratic representation of the indigenous people leading to more equitable governments appearing throughout the region. As a result, many of the resources in the region have been redistributed among the people, including revenue from energy production. The United States is reported to be actively attempting to de-stabilise the governments involved in order to prevent any further removal of funds from its potential indirect control. As the situation escalates, the US Ambassadors to both Bolivia and Venezuela have been expelled, dozens of deaths have been reported and the US fourth fleet, moth-balled since WW2, is now operating in the region to provide "counter-illicit trafficking, Theater Security Cooperation, military-to-military interaction and bilateral and multinational training operations". London, September 2008.
