SOCPA protest, Brian Haw assault. London, UK. 12/01/08.
A group of 200 protesters gather in London to protest the British governments restrictions on the right to assembly in and around the environs of the British Parliament building. They walk peacefully through the 'designated area' visiting sites of interest including the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Parliament Square, the Home Office and Downing Street. As the day drags on, anti-terrorism Territorial Support Group (TSG) officers realise they are unable to arrest the participants due to the fact that they are mobile and then begin to take out their frustrations on the protesters. Brian Haw is arrested, held and assaulted in a TSG van parked adjacent to the Cenotaph war memorial and then taken away bleeding and frightened. London, 12th January 2008.
